Black Student Success Survey

This survey has been developed in light of present-day, national conversations about antiBlack racism in the U.S., and concerns voiced by Black students, faculty and staff within institutions of higher education regarding their experiences and the need for various institutional changes. With the goal of centering and responding to those trends and narratives, the purpose of this survey is to gather qualitative and quantitative data from Black students, Black faculty, and Black staff within the University of California and California State University systems focusing on the following areas:

A) Retention and Recruitment,

B) Campus Climate and Inclusion,

C) Financial Support,

D) Academic and Department Support, and

E) Physical and Mental Well-Being.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. Completion of the survey will ensure that the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems have an empirical foundation to understand the lived realities of Black students, Black faculty, Black staff, Black postdoctoral scholars, and Black trainees within two of the largest public institutions within California. This survey is not intended to assess general beliefs about the CSU or UC system. Please complete the survey based on the specific college within the UC or CSU system you currently or formerly attended and/or worked at, as this assessment will inform advocacy plans through strategic partnership and collaboration.

There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project. However, if you feel uncomfortable answering any questions, you can withdraw from the survey at any point.
